Young Living Products Deliver Age-Defying Benefits

Summertime elicits memories of our childhood-vacations on the beach, endless days outdoors, and invincible youth and vitality. We thought we would be young forever, and we ignored the warnings of excess sun and the formation of fine lines. What seems like only a few summers later, we realize that those fine lines are in fact wrinkles! We are actually getting older, and the endless summer is over. Or is it?

The most sought-after products by aging baby boomers are age-defying skin care products and cosmetics that promise to reverse signs of aging. Fortunately, most senior boomers realize a key concept; youth begins on the inside. In addition to applying creams and serums, they also take health supplements to feel younger and look healthier.

Evidence suggests that the most effective age-defying substances known are antioxidants. Colorful fruits and vegetables-five to ten servings per day-will supply protection against oxidation, the process of imbalanced oxygen molecules damaging healthy cells, commonly referred to as free radical damage. In our toxic environment, oxidation occurs at a rapid-fire speed from poor diet, sun exposure, air pollution, and contaminated water. And in reality, few people follow the dietary recommendations to guard against oxidation within the body.

The Secret in a Bottle

In 2002, Young Living launched a truly unique product, Longevity™ soft gel capsules. Unlike most supplements, Longevity is a proprietary blend of pure essential oils, including thyme, orange, and clove. At its inception, people believed that this supplement helped to merely inhibit bacteria, fungus, and viruses, thus protecting them from common illnesses. However, a key detail of the thyme essential oil in this age-resisting product remained a mystery. Another look at Longevity will pique the interest of all who are interested in preventing some of the negative effects of aging.

Age-Defying Essential Oils

A recent study from the Scottish Agricultural College in South Ayrshire, Scotland, reports amazing benefits of thyme essential oil. The study determined that thyme essential oil maintained higher levels of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in the brain, liver, heart, and kidneys of test subjects than those who weren't given the supplement. (1) DHA, an essential fatty acid, is shown to reduce levels of triglycerides and may lower the risk of heart disease.(2) Drops in levels of DHA are associated with ADHD, Alzheimer's disease, and depression. As DHA declines with age, cellular activity (particularly in the brain) is hindered. However, DHA levels remained significantly higher when test subjects received a daily dose of thyme oil.(3) Preliminary studies are showing that thyme oil may produce similar benefits in humans. Thyme also has powerful antioxidant abilities.

The Longevity capsules contain orange essential oil as well, another potent antioxidant particularly significant to liver function.* Orange essential oil is also protective of other body cells. Orange essential oil is 90 percent d-limonene, which is effective in maintaining adequate levels of glutathione in the liver, thereby supporting optimal liver detoxification activities.(4) There is also a strong link between d-limonene and its effects on maintaining normal cell replication in the body. Studies suggest that d-limonene is highly protective and prevents abnormal cell growth.(5) A preventative daily dose provides added cell protection.

Clove essential oil was added to the Longevity capsules because of its staggering ORAC score. ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) measures a substance's ability to eliminate free radicals. Clove's ORAC measurement is 1,078,700, much higher than any other essential oil or any other known substance.(6)

Fat and Water Soluble Antioxidants

You may think, "I drink NingXia Red™, the most potent, natural antioxidant drink on the market. Why add Longevity?" The exciting news about Longevity, in addition to its age-delaying constituents, is its antioxidant qualities for fat-soluble cells of the body.

Every cell in our body is covered by a fatty, fluid layer. Transportation into and out of the cell is determined by the health of the cell wall. Receptor sites on the surface of the cell allow nutrients, hormones, and other components to enter the cell. When compromised, the cell is cut off from its nutritional supply and is unable to remove toxins. When fatty cell walls become oxidized, the cellular activity is hindered and the cell eventually dies. Antioxidants found in Longevity support fat-soluble cell surfaces. Longevity, combined with NingXia Red, supplies high quantities of both water- and fat-soluble antioxidants. This core health duo is designed to complement each other for optimal cell wellness.

Essential Oils in a League of Their Own

People new to essential oils often compare them to herbal supplements as both are derived from plants and botanicals. Beginners find it difficult to grasp the fundamental differences of both substances. Herbs are dried, which causes many of the delicate essential oils to evaporate, leaving only a fraction of the original potency. In contrast, essential oils are distilled from the plant and available at full potency. It takes hundreds of pounds of flowers, leaves, stems, and roots to produce only a few ounces of essential oil. Unlike herbs, these highly concentrated oils produce a more immediate and sustained effect. This proprietary blend of pure essential oils makes the Longevity capsules far superior to its herbal supplement counterpart. No other natural supplement compares to Young Living's Longevity capsules in its ability to restore balance and defend the body against free radicals and microbes, while offering age-related cellular support.

Sandy Dhein submitted the following tip:

“A friend I introduced essential oils to a few months ago asked what oil she could use for her very active grandchildren, ages five, three, and two, when she watched them. I suggested lavender and to apply it to their feet. She said it worked great and the children loved it. The other day she called me laughing. She told me when she went over to their house recently, they called to her from the living room. When she walked into the room, all three had their little bare feet in the air chanting, 'Lavender, Grandma, lavender!'”
